Sanghwa Hong is a researcher, artist, and designer who creates a novel experience by making new media installations, visual art, and interactive products. He studied Digital Media Design for a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Hongik University. He then completed his Master’s in Art and Technology Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He then received his Ph.D. in Engineering from the Graduate School of Culture and Technology (GSCT) at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) for his research on real-time measurement of physical properties of objects touching the surface of touch interfaces.
His recent research interests include designing new physical interfaces, digital reproductions of analog vibrations, and technological props that are contemporary interpretations of traditional Korean cultural elements. As an artist, he is working on expanding the boundary of fine art by using multiple state-of-the-art technologies with abstract concepts of contemporary art.
Now, as an assistant professor at the Media Contents Department, Konkuk University, he supports students to achieve in the field of art and design by using digital technology.
